From script to a comfortable take
- Paste your words. Write in the box, open a UTF-8 text file, or try the sample. Use short paragraphs that are easy to say aloud.
- Find your pace. Start at 140 words per minute, then adjust the speed and text size. The reading-time estimate includes your cue notes and is only a guide.
- Start and read. Set your camera recording separately, then select Start prompter. After the countdown, tap or press Space to pause. Drag or use the arrow keys to find your place.
A cue on its own line, such as [pause], is displayed in quieter text. It is a reminder for you, not an automatic pause. The prompter does not listen to your voice.
Set up your phone, screen or glass rig
Place the text close to your camera lens and choose a size you can read without leaning forward. On a phone, the text uses the available width. On a larger screen, a narrower column can help you keep your eyes near the lens.
For a glass teleprompter, open More display options and turn on Mirror. Use Flip if your rig also needs a vertical reflection. Check the reflected text before a take; the controls stay the right way round.
The reader fills the browser window even when native full screen is unavailable. If your browser allows it, the page also asks to keep the screen awake while scrolling. Check your device’s screen-sleep settings before a long take.
Keyboard and clicker controls
- Space / K
- Pause or resume. During countdown, pause before scrolling.
- ↑ / ↓
- Pause and move one line back or forward.
- Page Up / Page Down
- Pause and move a third of the reading area.
- ← / →
- Read slower or faster, in steps of 5 words per minute.
- − / +
- Make text smaller or larger.
- Home
- Restart with your chosen countdown.
- M
- Mirror the text.
- F
- Toggle full screen when your browser allows it.
- Escape
- Return to the script. In full screen, you may need to press twice.
Keyboard shortcuts work while the reader is open. A wheel gesture, drag or navigation key pauses scrolling so you can find your place; select Play when you are ready. Switching tabs also pauses. Your script stays in the editor when you return.
Frequently asked questions
Is this teleprompter completely free?
Yes. There is no account, paid unlock, character cap or session time limit. Long scripts still depend on your device’s available memory. All of the controls on this page are free.
Is my script uploaded or saved in my browser?
No. Your script and settings stay in this open page’s memory. They are not uploaded or saved in browser storage. Save a text copy before closing or refreshing the tab. The page keeps working offline once it has loaded.
Does it record video or follow my voice?
It scrolls your script at a pace you choose. It does not record, listen, or request camera or microphone access. Use your usual camera or recording app alongside it. Words per minute and reading time are estimates, not speech tracking.
Can I use a phone or tablet as a teleprompter?
The layout adapts to a phone, tablet or computer. Tap the script to pause, drag to reposition, and tap again to resume. If your browser cannot enter native full screen, the reader fills the browser window. A phone may still dim or sleep if its browser cannot keep the screen awake.
How do mirror and flip work with a glass rig?
Mirror reflects the text horizontally for a beam-splitter glass teleprompter. Flip reflects it vertically for rigs that need an upside-down display. The buttons stay readable. Check your reflection before recording.
Which script files can I open?
Open a UTF-8 .txt or .md file, or paste plain text from another app. Markdown is displayed as plain text, not formatted. Word documents and caption files are not imported. Save script downloads the original text as a .txt file.
Can I use a Bluetooth remote or presentation clicker?
A remote that sends the supported keyboard keys can control the reader. Space pauses or resumes; Page Up and Page Down pause and reposition the script. Test your remote’s keys before a take, because clickers differ.
